SUBIC BAY NAVAL BASE- 1977-1981

                                                                                                                                                                                                              .
This is where Dad worked in the Philippines and this is where all our sons were born. Many services were needed for the American militaries on the bases. The advantage for the Philippine people in the region was employment. The American bases were good for thousands of all kind of jobs for Philippine workers.
When the Americans came, they too saw the potential of Subic in the Philippines as a naval base, and was used to some effective extent to ward off Japanese invasion of the Philippines. After Word War II, when the Japanese Imperial forces were subjugated in the far east, the Americans developed Subic into a launching pad for military activities in Southeast Asia. In 1994-1995, Subic, along with Clark Air Base, was returned to the Philippine Government and was converted into a free port zone. After the communism ideology collapsed in Russia and China, the threat of these big Communist countries was no longer there. In stead of enemies these countries became trading partners. The 'Cold War' was no longer existing. The military bases in the Philippines were no longer needed. In the same period there were demonstrations in Manila against the presence of the American bases. At last in 1992 the military bases were closed.
